Mark looked down at the floor near the pieces of broken glass near his boots.
He saw a small glass medicine bottle rolling slowly under the white hospital bed.
The label on the bottle was dark blue and had no doctor name printed on it.
Mark bent down quickly and snatched the little bottle off the clean floor.
Mark: What is inside this bottle, Sarah? Tell me right now!
Sarah reached out to grab the bottle back with a look of pure panic.
Sarah: Give that back to me right now! That belongs to my personal purse!
Mark: This is sedatives, isn’t it? You were slipping this into her water!
Sarah: That is an absolute lie! You are losing your mind, Mark!
Mark held the bottle high above his head out of Sarah’s desperate reach.
Mark: That is why she has not woken up for three entire weeks!
Sarah: The doctors said her stroke was severe! I had nothing to do with it!
Mark: She was waking up last Monday until you started visiting her alone!
Sarah took two quick steps toward the door while looking around the room frantically.
Sarah: I do not have to stand here and listen to your crazy accusations!
Mark: You are not leaving this room until the chief doctor comes in here!
Mark stepped over the bed frame and blocked the exit with his wide shoulders.
Sarah: Move out of my way right now or I will call the police on you!
Mark: Go ahead and call them, Sarah! I want them to examine this bottle!
Sarah stopped in her tracks near the wall and stared at Mark with wide eyes.
Her breathing was fast and shallow as she tried to think of an escape plan.
Mark pointed his thumb upward toward the corner of the high white ceiling.
A small black dome security camera was mounted right near the decorative crown molding.
A tiny red light on the front of the camera blinks steadily every three seconds.
Mark: Do you see that camera up there, Sarah?
Sarah looked up at the ceiling and her face lost every bit of its remaining color.
Sarah: That camera is just for hospital staff monitoring… it does not record audio!
Mark: It records full visual video twenty-four hours a day directly to the main server!
Sarah: You are bluffing… they do not keep those tapes for more than a day!
Mark: My uncle works in the security department on the first floor of this building.
Mark: He gave me keycard access to the visual logs ten minutes before I walked in here.
Sarah backed away until her back pressed flat against the white hospital wall.
Sarah: Mark… please… we are family… we can talk about this like adults!
Mark: Now you want to talk like family after trying to harm my mother?
Sarah: I was only trying to protect the estate from being spent on medical bills!
Mark: You wanted her out of the way so you could inherit the trust fund early!
Sarah: Your father left that money to take care of the entire family business!
Mark: My father left that trust fund specifically for my mother’s long-term healthcare!
Mark pulled his cell phone from his pocket and unlocked the screen with his thumb.
He opened the security app that showed a live camera view of room 402.
Mark: Look at this screen, Sarah… it recorded every single second of your visits.
Sarah: Delete that clip right now, Mark! I will give you half of the estate money!
Mark: My mother’s life is not for sale, and neither is my self-respect!
The heavy room door swung open again and two tall police officers stepped inside.
Dr. Harrison, the head neurologist, followed right behind them holding a digital tablet.
Dr. Harrison: Is everything alright in here, Mark? We received your emergency text message.
Mark handed the small blue glass bottle directly to the head officer on the left.
Mark: Officer, I found this unlabelled bottle in her hand over my mother’s bed tray.
Officer Davis: Ma’am, do not move. Stay right where you are against that wall.
Sarah: Officer, this young man pushed me and threatened me inside this private room!
Officer Davis: We will review the security video footage downstairs in just a moment, ma’am.
Dr. Harrison walked over to the heart monitor and checked the liquid drip bag attached.
He inspected the clear tubing with a small flashlight from his coat pocket.
Dr. Harrison: There is an unknown chemical residue inside this IV fluid connection line.
Sarah: That is impossible! I never touched her IV line at any point today!
Dr. Harrison: We will send a liquid sample to the laboratory right now for immediate testing.
