“How did you recall the exact details of Harold’s bailout?”

“Because I signed the authorization papers while your father was in open-heart surgery, Damian,” Evelyn replied gently.

“Your father built this company to be a fortress for our bloodline.”

“He always taught me that a fortress falls if you lose control of the keys.”

She reached inside her emerald blazer and placed a small, silver hard drive onto the table between them.

“Serena thought she was undetectable while slipping low doses of toxins into my daily tea over the last twelve months,” Evelyn said, her voice dropping into a dangerous whisper.

“She wanted my mind to fail so she could force you to grant her full power of attorney over the trust.”

“Her brother owes millions to offshore casinos, and she intended to use our family wealth to clear his debts.”

Damian’s knuckles whitened against the armrest of the chair.

“The authorities are hunting her down right now.”

“She cleared out her safety deposit boxes and fled the apartment hours before the board convened.”

“She did not run far, Damian,” Evelyn said, glancing toward the glowing horizon.

“She ran straight to her mother’s private residence in Greenwich.”

“She forgot that the private security agency stationed at the front gate is owned entirely by our family trust.”

Evelyn unlocked her tablet, revealing a live surveillance feed of an iron-gated driveway.

Serena was visible on the screen, frantically throwing designer bags into the trunk of a car, unaware of the armored vehicles parked nearby.

“We will not let this play out quietly behind closed doors, son,” Evelyn told him.

“By morning, everyone will witness the cost of crossing the Kingsley family.”

The armored SUV moved through the predawn darkness, its tires humming smoothly across the wet highway.

Damian sat upright beside his mother, his jaw locked in cold concentration.

He was no longer acting as an executive; he was moving like a commander securing an objective.

When their convoy arrived at the Greenwich estate, the security guards had already sealed the heavy wrought-iron gates.

Serena’s vehicle was stuck in the middle of the circular driveway, trapped behind the barred exit.

Evelyn rolled down her window as Damian stepped onto the gravel, his boots striking the wet pavement with deliberate force.

Serena killed her car’s engine, looking through the glass with eyes wide with terror.

She stepped out into the damp morning air, wrapping her silk trench coat tightly around her trembling frame.

“Damian, listen to me,” she cried out, her voice cracking with desperation.

“I only came here to see my mother.”

“The reporters were swarming our home, and I couldn’t handle the harassment after what happened to your mother.”
