Before Julian could swing a punch, Lorenzo’s fist connected sharply with his jaw, sending the younger man crashing back over the velvet armchair. Julian hit the floor, wiping a streak of blood from the corner of his mouth, grinning like a madman.

“You’re too late, Lorenzo,” Julian wheezed, spitting blood onto the pristine carpet. “The wheels are already in motion. Even if you lock me up, the network outside won’t stop. The takeover happens tonight.”

Lorenzo stared down at him with absolute contempt, stepping back and straightening his cuffs. He pulled out his radio.

“Marco. Secure the west wing. Take Julian to the lower holding cells.” Lorenzo paused, casting one final, freezing look at his cousin. “And check his phone records. I want every single contact he’s spoken to in the last forty-eight hours exposed before midnight.”

Chapter 3 – The Gathering Storm Outside

Down in the subterranean secure quarters, the heavy reinforced concrete walls muffled the distant sounds of the estate’s lockdown. Sophia sat on the edge of a sleek leather cot, holding little Lena tightly in her arms. The child had finally fallen asleep, exhausted by the sheer terror of the afternoon, her face buried against her mother’s shoulder.

Marco Santoro stood by the heavy steel door, checking the digital monitor that displayed camera feeds from across the entire estate perimeter. The storm Lorenzo had anticipated was no longer a distant threat; it was actively converging on their coordinates.

“Boss,” Marco said into his comms unit as the secure door hissed open and Lorenzo walked into the room. “We have movement on the outer access road. Three heavy SUVs just blew past the automated checkpoints without identification codes.”

Lorenzo’s face darkened as he crossed the room, stepping softly so as not to wake the sleeping child. “Julian’s network. They didn’t wait for morning. They knew the moment the internal comms went dark, their window shrank.”

Sophia looked up, her eyes wide with terror in the dim light. “Mr. Moretti… the gates. If they breach the fence—”

“They won’t get past the inner courtyard,” Lorenzo interrupted, his tone an anchor of absolute certainty. He turned to Marco. “What’s the status of our external tactical units?”

“Positioned at the perimeter walls,” Marco reported, tapping his tactical tablet. “We have twenty men armed and ready in the auxiliary bunkers. But Boss, look at the thermal feeds on camera four.”

Lorenzo stepped closer, squinting at the screen. The three black SUVs had pulled directly up to the main front entrance, ignoring the secure parking bays. Doors flew open simultaneously, and figures dressed in heavy tactical gear spilled out onto the front steps. They weren’t low-level street thugs; they carried professional-grade breaching equipment, suppression-rigged rifles, and moved with military precision.

“They aren’t here to negotiate,” Marco muttered, unholstering his sidearm and checking the magazine click. “They’re here to wipe the slate clean. If Julian and Valentina couldn’t take over from the inside, their external backup is executing a total asset liquidation.”

Lorenzo’s thoughts flashed back to Valentina locked in her suite upstairs. She wasn’t just a disgruntled partner in a coup; she was a hostage to the very monsters she had invited into their lives. If the invading team breached the house, Valentina would be the first person they silenced to protect their own identities.

“Marco, leave a ten-man detail here to guard Sophia and Lena,” Lorenzo commanded, his voice dropping into the cold, commanding register of a warlord. “No one enters or leaves this sub-level under any circumstances. If the heavy doors take structural damage, initiate emergency lockdown protocol delta.”

“And you, Boss?” Marco asked, locking eyes with him. “You’re not staying down here.”

“No,” Lorenzo said, pulling a suppressed pistol from the hidden wall compartment behind the cot and checking the slide. “I’m going to remind everyone inside these gates whose house they just stepped into.”

He turned and strode out of the bunker, the heavy steel door sealing shut behind him with a hydraulic hiss. The war for the Moretti estate had officially begun.

Chapter 4 – Echoes in the Marble Hallway

The grand foyer was dead silent, save for the faint hum of the emergency generators kicking in as the main power grid flickered from an outside wire cut. Moonlight filtered through the broken white rose petals scattered across the floor, casting long, eerie shadows across the polished marble.

Lorenzo moved through the darkness like a ghost, hugging the shadows of the arched colonnade. He reached the foot of the sweeping staircase just as the heavy oak front doors shuddered under a massive concussive blow.

Boom.

The reinforced hinges screamed as a second breaching charge went off, blowing the front doors inward in a cloud of splintered wood and choking dust. Three heavily armed operatives rushed into the foyer, their tactical flashlights cutting erratic beams through the dim interior.
