The representative requested a few minutes to verify directly with the establishment.
Daniel paced nervously around the room while I waited for the answer.
When he contacted us again, his tone had changed.
He explained that the hotel had processed a cancellation submitted as if it came from the original travelers and that the room category had been released for a new request.
Part of our payment remained pending reconciliation and any restitution would require reviewing the documentation.
“Can we still get our room back?” I asked.
The representative responded that they were trying to reinstate the reservation, but that availability was limited.
He then added that he had received an update from the accommodations department.
An application for the same dates and the same room category was now listed under the names of Cloe and Tomás.
I felt my heart begin to beat hard.
Daniel approached to listen to the conversation.
The representative explained that, due to the payment dispute and unauthorized changes, they needed immediate confirmation to decide how to handle both transactions.
I asked him what the deadline was.
“We must close the allocation of that room tomorrow morning, and if we don’t resolve the issue before the deadline, it may no longer be available to you,” he replied.
I was trying to understand how my mother had managed to interfere in a trip that we had paid for and carefully protected.
Then the representative added even more worrying information.
The reassignment request included a message stating that Daniel and I had voluntarily decided to give up that part of our honeymoon to give it to my sister.
I asked him to read exactly who had sent that statement.
The woman confirmed my mother’s name.
But when he opened the attached copy of the authorization, he discovered something that was not in the first document we had reviewed.
Alongside my reproduced signature also appeared the full name of Daniel, presented as the second person who agreed to waive our reservation.
My husband leaned towards the phone.
“I never authorized the cancellation of that hotel,” he replied.
The representative remained silent for a few seconds.
Later, he informed us that the request had been initially accepted and that the room was no longer listed under our name.
I looked at Daniel and realized that, while we were trying to save our wedding, my family had progressed even further than we imagined.
My mother had not only used my money and my signature.
He had also tried to hand over part of our honeymoon through an authorization that neither of us had signed.
And if we didn’t manage to stop that operation before the announced deadline, the room we had been waiting for for months could end up permanently in my sister’s hands.
