The representative explained that an itinerary sent by mail did not necessarily prove that all services were confirmed or that payments had been authorized by the corresponding account holder.
That explanation made Tomás look at my sister with obvious concern.
I asked the agent to send to my email all the information she could provide me as the account holder and the holder of the linked payment method.
I also requested that any further modifications be suspended while the operation was investigated.
The representative confirmed that she would file the corresponding report and that she would receive a message with the reference number.
When we finished the call, my mother declared that it had been enough and that we should go back to enjoying the wedding.
I felt that we had only just discovered a part of the problem.
Daniel accompanied me for a few moments to the hallway and asked me if I wanted to leave the celebration.
I looked at him in surprise because I had spent so much time trying to maintain my composure that I hadn’t considered that possibility.
“I don’t want them to take away the rest of our night too,” I replied.
My husband hugged me and said that we would get our party back, even if it meant completely changing the program.
We returned to the living room while my mother, Chloe, and Tomas remained behind us, arguing quietly.
Lena had managed to clear the dance floor and rearrange the music.
My grandmother Julia was sitting with several friends and called me over to ask if we were still planning to dance.
I answered yes.
She took both my hands and said that she had waited too long to see me married to allow some smoke cannons to ruin that memory.
His words made me genuinely smile for the first time since the disaster began.
The DJ announced our first dance again and the guests began to approach the dance floor.
This time nobody interrupted the music.
Daniel gently wrapped his arms around me and began to move with me as we tried to ignore the stares that were still coming from some tables.
I rested my head against his shoulder and felt the tears finally begin to fall.
“I didn’t want our wedding to be like this,” I whispered.
“Our wedding is still ours, Veronica, because we are here and we continue to choose each other,” she replied.
That phrase helped me understand that we still had something much more important than a perfect celebration.
When the song ended, the guests applauded and several people came up to congratulate us.
My mother remained seated next to Chloe, while my father looked at his phone with concern.
I decided not to continue the discussion during dinner.
I wanted to share at least part of the evening with those who had come to celebrate our marriage and not to witness family conflicts.
However, shortly before they served dessert, my phone vibrated.
It was an email from the travel agency.
I opened the message with Daniel and discovered that it contained a copy of the modification request, the record of the financial transaction, and several documents that had been sent to justify the changes.
The charge of nearly two hundred and ten thousand pesos corresponded to a new tourist operation for Cloe and Tomás, not to a free replacement of our original tickets.
The request used an additional card linked to my account, which I had allowed my mother to keep for certain family emergencies.
I felt like I couldn’t breathe when I recognized the last numbers on that card.
But what was truly alarming appeared when I opened the attached document that supposedly authorized the use of our data and the payment for the new trip.
At the bottom there was a signature that tried to reproduce mine.
Below was a statement affirming that I had voluntarily authorized the operation as a family gift.
And when I checked the date on the document, I realized that someone had submitted that authorization three days after I had expressly prohibited using my wedding to celebrate the pregnancy.
I looked at Daniel with trembling hands.
My mother had not only tried to give away our honeymoon.
Someone had used a signature that I never gave to compromise two hundred and ten thousand pesos of our money.

PART 3: The Price of an Obedient Daughter
I showed the document to Daniel without saying a word, because I needed someone else to look at that signature and confirm that I wasn’t imagining too perfect a resemblance to an old authorization I had given out during the wedding preparations.
